NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Firefighters responded to a fire on Picardy Place in North Charleston Wednesday morning.
Firefighters battled a structure fire at a single-family home in the 7700 block of Picardy Lane around 11 a.m. First arriving units reported smoke showing from the structure. They entered the home and quickly extinguished the fire.
No one was at home at the time of the blaze. A concerned neighbor called in the fire and notified the family of two, who are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Red Cross volunteers were called to assist after the home sustained major fire damage in the fire. The American Red Cross provided two adults temporary lodging at a nearby hotel, financial assistance to help replace the food lost in the fire, comfort kits filled with personal emergency supplies and referrals to partner organizations.
The North Charleston Fire Department said the fire appears to have begun in the laundry room of the home with the specific cause still under investigation.
There were no reported injuries.
