Sheriff's Office: Alcohol may have been factor in bike vs. car accident

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A man was taken to a local hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 61 Wednesday night.

The accident happened around 8 p.m. near the River Road Plaza on Ashley River Road.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says the victim was riding his bike when he was hit. The victim, who is from West Ashley, suffered life threatening injuries.

According to the sheriff's office, alcohol may have been a  factor in the cause of the accident. Charges have not be filed against the driver who is also from West Ashley.

The accident is still under investigation.
