BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WTOC) - A nursing home caretaker was arrested Thursday morning and is being charged with three counts of abuse of a vulnerable adult.
Sonia King, 41, turned herself in at 8:30 a.m. at the Hilton Head Island branch of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, according to the sheriff's office.
On Dec. 31, Beaufort County sheriff's deputies responded to the Carolina House on Beach City Road. Deputies were met by the executive director, Rhonda Maury. Maury told deputies that another employee told her that they had seen King physically and verbally assaulting a 93-year-old patient. Maury stated that she suspended King and contacted the sheriff's office.
Sheriff's deputies began investigating and identified two additional victims that reported they were also assaulted by King on the same day. The employee working with King witnessed her physically and verbally assault a 70-year-old woman and a 79-year-old woman while she made her rounds.
The employee was also able to capture audio of the incidents.
Based on the visible physical injuries on the victims, witness statements, and audio evidence, a warrant was issued for King.
The three victims were evaluated and no one suffered any serious injuries because of the assaults.
The investigation is ongoing.
