Demolition makes way for new Extreme Makeover home

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - A new home will replace an old one in Beaufort County in less than a week.

It's all part of the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build that started Wednesday.

Staff Sgt. William Dickinson of Marine Logistics Squadron 31 and his wife, India, and five children, Grant, 16; Briana, 14; James, 10; Robin, 8; Sophia, 1, were selected from hundreds of candidates. The home is at 45 Mystic Circle in Beaufort.

The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon at the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.

Demolition on the Dickinson home commenced at about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday. Within five minutes, the house was reduced to rubble. India Dickinson's family drove from Atlanta to see the house come down.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's Ty Pennington and the team used some pyro power as they set off charges on and around the house. Fighter jets from Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort pretended to strafe the area with gunfire and bombs before the home was diminished to rubble.
