NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified the body authorities discovered burning near a playground Monday morning in North Charleston.
The North Charleston Fire and Police Departments responded to Westvaco Park in North Charleston after receiving a "suspicious smoke call" at 10:25 a.m. Upon arrival, authorities found a burning body.
The victim has been identified as 82-year-old Samuel Dail of North Charleston. The coroner's office identified the cause of death as carbon monoxide toxicity and smoke inhalation. The manner of death is still being investigated.
Authorities put up a large tarp to cover the incident scene Monday.
A joint investigation with the North Charleston Fire and Police Departments is ongoing. The Charleston County Coroner's Office is also investigating.
