COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - South Carolina legislators are looking to Gov. Nikki Haley to offer details on plans to save money and restructure government as she gives her first State of the State address.
One week after becoming South Carolina's first female governor, Halye delivers her address statewide on Wednesday. Legislators said Tuesday that they want more than the broad brush strokes of her hopes for the state that were part of her inaugural speech.
Legislators want her to offer specifics on dealing with a projected $829 million shortfall in the upcoming budget.
Wednesday's speech will also be something of a tone setter for Haley. She has spent the last two months courting legislators' support for changes she wants.
