Driver arrested after police pursuit in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office have arrested a 21-year-old man after leading deputies on a chase in North Charleston Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities have charged Dwight Fleming of Charleston with unlawful possession of a pistol, driving under suspension and failure to stop for lights and sirens. It all started around 1:30 pm when deputies attempted a traffic stop on a 2001 Lincoln Continental at Ashley Phosphate Road and I-26.

According to investigators, Fleming failed to stop and authorities attempted to stop the car.  The chase went through parts of North Charleston and in the direction of the City of Charleston.

Authorities say the driver lost control of the vehicle on I-26 near the Morrison Drive off ramp. The driver then jumped out of the car and attempted to get away from officers on the King Street Extension where he was caught and arrested, according to deputies.
A 23-year-old passenger in the car has been detained by authorities with no charges pending against him.
