Hundreds expected at summit in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - First District Congressman Tim Scott is among the leaders speaking at a North Charleston summit focused on raising boys.

More than 600 minority students and parents are expected at Saturday's event sponsored by the Charleston County School District. It is being held at Stall High School.

The summit is called from Boyz to Gentlemen. It focuses on such things as student achievement and the role of family and community in raising boys in the 21st century.

It will also provide information about community and religious programs that can help boys.

Scott was raised in poverty in North Charleston and his single mother worked 16 hours a day to raise the congressman and his brother.
