North Charleston gun buy-back successful

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – The North Charleston Police Department says the Gun Buy-Back Awareness Program was a great success for the city.

The program granted the opportunity for citizens to turn in weapons to authorities no questions asked Saturday from 10a.m. until Noon. A total of 72 weapons were collected (handguns, shotguns, long guns and assault weapons).

Authorities handed out $100 Wal-Mart gift card for handguns and $50 Wal-Mart gift card for long guns.

There were three locations throughout the city for citizens to drop off their weapons included:  Calvary AME Church 5 weapons (3 handguns, 2 long guns), Seacoast Church Dream Center 29 weapons (24 handguns, 5 long guns) and  New Covenant Church of God 38 weapons (26 handguns, 12 long guns).

The weapons collected will be processed by the police department before destruction in accordance with the department's policies.
