BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – A North Brunswick High School Band teacher was arrested over the weekend following allegations of inappropriate behavior with a student.
Brunswick County School officials reported allegations of the misconduct to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office on Jan. 19. After an investigation by the Sheriff's Office Special Crimes Unit, teacher Mark Riel was arrested. The sheriff's office said he sent inappropriate sexual content text messages to a student.
According to Lt. Donna Simpson, Riel has been charged with one count of indecent liberties with a minor. He was taken to the Brunswick County Detention Facility on Saturday.
Riel was given a $25,000 secured bond.
