Man pulled to safety before log truck explosion dies at MUSC

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The log truck driver who was pulled from his truck after a wreck near Cottageville more than a week ago died over the weekend.

Funeral services for 77-year-old Donald Searson are Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Brice W. Hernon and Sons Funeral Home. Visitation is Monday night from 6 to 8 p.m.

Searson died Saturday.  He had been in intensive care at MUSC following the accident on Highway 61 near Cottageville.

According to the South Carolina Highway State Patrol, Searson was traveling south on Hwy 61 on the morning of Jan. 12 in Colleton.  Authorities say as his truck entered a curve in the roadway, it left the roadway and overturned.

Two men who saw the accident helped pull Searson to safety minutes before his rig exploded.
