Sheriff's Office: Man shoots into family's home, striking brother

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says they are looking for a man that shot into a home, striking his brother on James Island Wednesday night.

According to authorities, 19-year-old Darnell Lafyette shot his brother after a domestic confrontation at a home on Sol Legare Road. When deputies arrived they found the victim with a single gun shot wound to the leg.

Detectives say it all started when a 5-year-old girl told the victim, Lafyette's brother, that she had been hit by Darnell Lafyette. When the brother went to confront the suspect, Lafyette said that he was going to hurt him and he wasn't going to let a little girl hit him, a report stated.

The sheriff's office says the suspect then left the home and wrestled with his brother outside of the front yard with some family members present. The suspect then got up and ran to his vehicle to get his gun, authorites report. At that point, the victim told everyone to go back into the home.

The suspect then ran to the home, kicked the front door and fired his gun two to three times into the home striking the victim once in the leg, according to a police report.

The victim was brought to the hospital, treated and released. If you have any information you are asked to call authorities.
