Charleston County Spelling Bee champ heads to D.C.

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Several Charleston County students competed for the title of top speller Wednesday night in the district Spelling Bee.

Dominick Gibbs, a fifth grader at Mount Zion won the competition. Emma Hawkins of James Island Middle School was the runner up.

The top 18 will compete in the spell bound competition on March 10.

Gibbs, the winner of the Spelling Bee, heads to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. this June.
