Father charged with voluntary manslaughter in son's shooting death

MONCKS, CORNER, SC (WCSC) - A father accused of shooting and killing his 24-year-old son has been charged with voluntary manslaughter.

Moncks Corner police charged 49-year-old William Derrick Moore in Thursday's shooting at a home on Red Leaf Boulevard.

Officers believe Moore and his son, Adam Moore, were arguing before the shooting. They say a fist fight ensued leading to Adam Moore being shot in the stomach. He died shortly afterward.

His father William Moore had a bond hearing Friday night. Bond was set at $15,000. A handful of Moore's family and friends showed up to voice their support of the accused shooter, believing the father's act was one of self-defense.

"It escalated. It was something that shouldn't have never happened," says William Moore's brother Steve. "I know my brother he wouldn't have willfully killed his child."

Officers say when they went to the home, they found William Moore pleading to get his son some help. Authorities then detained William Moore and transported Adam Moore to a local hospital where he died. William Moore was also treated and released.

A small 9mm handgun believed to be the murder weapon was discovered by police.
