Los Angeles (CNN) – A Los Angeles Unified School District police officer who claimed he was shot has been arrested for making up the story.
"The current state of the investigation refutes Stenroos' account of the incident and we are now certain that there is no outstanding suspect in this shooting," said Chief Charlie Beck.
Officer Jeffrey Senroos said a burglary suspect shot him in the chest while he was on patrol near a high school.
"It is very important for the public to understand and other law enforcement entities to realize that we are no longer looking for the suspect depicted in the artist renderings that we displayed last week," Beck said.
The alleged shooting prompted a lockdown of several schools as police searched for the shooter.
Beck did not say how Sternroos may have acquired his wound.
