Man sentenced to 15 years for criminal sexual conduct
CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – A Charleston man pleaded guilty to first degree criminal sexual conduct Monday morning.
According to the solicitor's office, 22-year-old Jamarriel Ferrell pled guilty to criminal sexual conduct in the first degree on the day that his trial was to have begun.
Circuit Judge Deadra Jefferson sentenced Ferrell to 15 years in prison. Under the sentencing law governing criminal sexual conduct, Ferrell must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence.
Assistant Solicitor Greg Voigt told the court that on Nov. 10, 2009, Ferrell accosted a College of Charleston junior on her way home to her apartment from Addlestone Library.
Ferrell dragged the woman behind an apartment building at 145 Coming Street and demanded money. When the woman did not have any money to give Ferrell he beat her in the face and neck with his fists and forced her to perform a sexual act.
