Duo charged in connection with residential armed robbery

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police have charged two people in connection with an armed robbery at a home in Charleston.

The Charleston Police Department charged 18-year-old Anthony Lemoris Whitmore and 20-year-old Malik Lamar Caldwell with the Jan. 12 armed robbery. It all started when officers responded to a home on Smith Street in reference to a burglary in progress.

Officers say they met with the victim who said that while she was at a home with other residents, two armed black males entered the residence and robbed them at gunpoint.

According to investigators, the suspects repeatedly told the victims, "Give us your money, give us your phones, give us everything."

The victim told police she was able to hide her phone and contact police.

Another victim reported to authorities that one of the men at the party, Caldwell, had gone outside for a phone call. The victim said that three to five minutes later, the suspects entered the home.

Whitmore was taken into custody on Monday in St. Matthews and Caldwell was served with a warrant for accessory in the Smith Street armed robbery.

Caldwell was being held in the Charleston County Detention Center on an unrelated charge.
