CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - But not all at once. Alma Webb doesn't mind sharing the numbers. Since the 1950's, she's donated 172 pints of her precious "O" positive blood to the Greater Carolinas Chapter of the American Red Cross.

"I hope it helps, I'd hate to think it didn't," said Webb. We met her during the 15 minutes she was hooked up to a needle that slowly pulled blood from her left arm. It doesn't hurt she says, just a little sting.

Webb started donating after a surgery where she received 4 pints of blood herself. Back in those days, blood banks kindly asked you to replenish the blood you received. Webb just never stopped after that.

She usually goes on a Sunday and makes the trip just about every 56 days, which is the time period required between donations.

She says she'll give as long as she's able. While her eyesight is failing, the rest of her body is strong, including her smile.
