Runners race to the top of Empire State Building

NEW YORK (CNN) - Some New York runners laced up their shoes for a race of a different kind.

The 34th annual Road Runners Empire State Building Run-Up was held Tuesday morning, with more than 400 participants racing up 86 flights to the top of the tallest building in New York City.

The race ended on the outdoor observation deck, over 1,500 steps from the beginning.

Australian Alice McNamara won the women's division in 13 minutes, three seconds.

Thomas Dold from Germany won the men's division in 10 minutes, 10 seconds.

This is the sixth time he's won the race.
