Police: Officer in foot pursuit shoots dog after attack

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The North Charleston Police Department says an officer shot at a pit bull's ear after the officer was attacked during a foot pursuit in North Charleston Monday morning.

According to authorities, the officer was pursuing a suspect who had pushed the officer and took off on foot.

During the pursuit, the suspect jumped a fence in the 2600 block of Olympia Street. The officer in pursuit of the suspect jumped the fence and was attacked by the pit bull inside of the yard, according to police.

Investigators say the officer fired a grazing shot at the ear of the dog and was able to get to safety. The officer suffered scratches and the dog is fine, authorities report.

Police are still looking for the suspect.
