Man wanted in Charleston County arrested by U.S. Marshals in Florida

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – U.S. Marshals arrested a man in Florida Wednesday who is wanted for assault and battery charges in Charleston County.

Darnell Lafayette, 19, was apprehended Wednesday without incident by U.S. Marshals in Jacksonville, FL.  Lafayette, also known as Dee-Lo, is charged by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office with first degree assault and battery related to an incident in the 2,000 block of Sol Legare Road.  Lafayette is alleged to have shot an individual following a verbal altercation.

"Mr. Lafayette thought that by leaving South Carolina, he could escape the charges he will return to face.  It is the diligent efforts of investigators in Florida and South Carolina that brought this fugitive to justice.  Cooperation amongst law enforcement is always a key element in successes like this," said Kelvin Washington, U.S. Marshal for South Carolina.

The Operation Intercept Fugitive Task Force, headed by U.S. Marshals in South Carolina, worked alongside the Charleston County Sheriff's Office to arrest Lafayette who had fled the Charleston area to Florida.

Investigators alerted their counterparts in the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force, Jacksonville Division. Investigators developed information that Lafayette was living in a particular apartment building, which led to his arrest.
