Worker killed in Boeing parking lot accident identified

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have identified a man who was killed when a car he was working on trapped him in the Boeing plant's parking lot near Charleston International Airport.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office say 31-year-old Miguel Vazquez from West Ashley died from asphyxiation.

Candy Eslinger, a Boeing official, confirmed that the man was a subcontractor for the BE&K Turner joint venture and died in the event unrelated to construction or the overall project on the Boeing site.

BE&K Turner Joint Venture Operations Manager Kenny Anderson said that Vazquez was going home for the day around 9 a.m. and decided to do some repairs on his car before leaving. Then, around 10:30 a.m., security was notified of a body trapped under a vehicle.

According to officials, the car had slipped off of the jack and trapped him. Emergency officials were called and the man was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m.

Authorities have not released the identity of the man.
