NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Stamp collectors and buyers will have some of their best collections on display this weekend in North Charleston.
The first APS AmeriStamp Expo will be held at the North Charleston Convention Center from Friday to Sunday. There are thousands of stamp collections all over the floor at the convention center and even buckets filled with them.
"You can find a five cent stamp that could be worth $1,000, $2,000," said Dana Guyer, director of the expo. "It just depends on different level of color, variety."
Collectors and exhibitors come from all corners of the world just to see who has the best collection and to do some wheeling and dealing.
"They may actually trade stamps at the club and things like that, or sell them. I'll sell you this one for a dollar or an even trade or I'll sell it to you for $10 or 20 or even a 1,000, "Guyer said.
Most stamps on display date back to the early 1800's, but it's the history behind them that intrigues many collectors. Admissions to the weekend expo is free. Doors will open up at 10 a.m. and exhibitors will be available both days to appraise and sell.
At 2 p.m. on Sunday, you can get an exhibit tour by one of the judges and learn more about stamps from all over the world.
