Home suffers major damage after morning fire

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – A Charleston home sustained major damage after a fire Friday morning.

The Charleston Fire Department responded to the fire at 31 Devereaux Ave. and call on the Lowcountry Chapter of the American Red Cross to assist the family of four.

The Red Cross provided this family temporary shelter at a nearby hotel, financial assistance to help replace the food and clothing lost in the fire, comfort kits containing emergency supplies to replace personal items lost, such as toiletries and homemade afgans.

The Red Cross has assisted 147 individuals needing aid due to home fires in its seven-county region of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties since January 1 and 795 fire victims since our fiscal year began, July 1, 2010.
