HCPD finds dog with severe open neck wounds, owner arrested

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The Horry County Police Department has arrested a 40-year-old Conway man officers say tortured his dog, causing severe open wounds to the dog's neck.

Sgt. Robert Kegler, spokesman for the Horry County Police Department, said officers with the department's Environmental Services Section responded to a home along Evelyn Drive in Conway to check on the welfare of a dog.

Upon arrival, officers found a yellow lab with multiple collars far too small for the dog around the dog's neck.

The collars had embedded into the dog's neck, causing severe open wounds.

Additionally, living conditions for the lab were reported to have been unsatisfactory to the officers on scene, and the dog was subsequently taken by the officers and was transported to the Horry County Animal Care Center for treatment.

The dog's owner, Len Eldon Crenshaw, was arrested and taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Crenshaw has been charged with ill treatment of animals and torture, and is currently out on bond.
