CHARLESTON, SC (AP) - The good times will roll in Charleston as former first lady Jenny Sanford and New York businessman John McAvoy are queen and king at a Mardi Gras event.
A boat parade in the harbor highlights festivities on Saturday morning. In the evening, there is a ball benefiting the Children's Hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina.
A group called the Krewe of Charleston, which organized in 2009, held its first Mardi Gras ball last year.
Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, is a day of partying before Ash Wednesday ushers in the season of Lent. This year, Ash Wednesday falls on March 9.
