Construction effects traffic in Georgetown

From Gerogetown City Fire Department

GEORGETOWN, SC - Construction on the City of Georgetown's Highway 17 Drainage project continues to effect traffic. Beginning Monday, Front Street is closed to all traffic from Fraser Street to Dozier Street.

Side street parking on Cleland Street will be discontinued during the Front Street Closure to aid with traffic between Front and Highmarket Streets.

Residents and motorists are urged not to park on Cleland Street during the closing of this portion of Front Street. The Front street closing is necessary for SC Pipeline to relocate their natural gas distribution main in preparation for the installation of storm water piping for the Highway 17 drainage project. SC Pipeline is the pipeline distributor of natural gas for SCE&G.

The Front street closing is expected to last about a week before re-opening. Additional closures are expected for Front Street, from Fraser to Wood later this month.

Other streets that are currently closed to traffic are Dozier Street from Front to Prince Streets and the foot of Wood Street from Leonard and Sons Shrimp Company to the Sampit River.
