2 women arrested in connection with Charleston armed robbery

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police arrested two women in connection with an armed robbery that happened at a home on Smith Street in Charleston in January.

The Charleston Police Department charged 18-year-old Melissa Sue Johnes and 20-year-old Alexandra Nicole Oken with accessory after the fact. Both were locked up at the Charleston County Detention Center.

According to investigators, Johnes and Oken are accused of having knowledge of a Jan. 12 armed robbery after it occurred. Police say they also used some of the money taken by the suspects.

The armed robbery happened around 12:25 a.m., when two men armed with handguns entered the home and robbed the victims of their money, credit cards and cell phones.

Four men have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the robbery. Anthony Whitmore, 18, 20-year-old Malik Caldwell, 24-year-old Brandon Owens and 20-year-old Timothy Gibbs are all charged in the incident.

Police are continuing the investigation.
