Dorchester County parents express concerns with school overcrowding

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – Dorchester County school leaders talked with parents about possible changes for some high school students at a meeting Tuesday night.

Fort Dorchester High School is overcrowded and some District 2 officials have a plan to move some students to Ashley Ridge High School. Some community members have some concerns.

"I'm just really concerned about the student's safety and the fact that they will have to make a 30- to 40-minute drive to a different school as opposed to a 10-minute drive down the road," said one concerned parent.

The district is still trying to figure out how many students, and which neighborhoods in that district, would be affected.
