GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) – A Stratford High School student was arrested and charged with third degree assault and battery after a school fight Wednesday.
According to police, the 16-year-old female suspect stormed across the Stratford High School cafeteria toward another female student just before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. An officer then observed the suspect approach the student, who was seated at a lunch table, and begin to verbally confront her.
The officer then witnessed the suspect begin striking and punching the other student violently with a closed fist while she was still seated. Other students began forming a large crowd near the lunch table where the victim was sitting. The officer quickly shoved through the crowd and separated the students.
According to authorities, the victim, a 15-year-old girl, did not appear to be injured from the assault and refused medical treatment when offered. She told officers that she didn't know why the suspect attacked her, but thought the incident may be the result of an argument that had with each other at a baseball scrimmage on Tuesday
The suspect told authorities that the incident was the result of an ongoing argument and rumors.
The suspect was charged with third degree assault and battery and disturbing school.
She was released into her mother's custody.
