Man escapes house fire, crashes car and lives to tell about it

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A man from Columbus County escaped from a house in flames and a car crash, both just minutes apart.

According to the Columbus County Fire Marshal's Office, Robert Jordan's home off Sam Potts Highway in Whiteville caught fire around 3:00 Tuesday morning.

Jordan said he was inside his burning home, so he raised his arms and jumped through two windows to escape.  He suffered several cuts on both wrists and cut an artery in his right thumb so he started to drive to the hospital.

On his way to get treatment, he slammed into a pole and his truck flipped over into a ditch.  Doctors believe he probably blacked out from losing so much blood.

Jordan lost his wife to cancer in January after being married for 44 years, but despite his misfortunes he's trying to stay strong.

"Today's my first day out and I'm just able to get my thoughts back together," said Jordan.  "God's got a purpose for me, had to bring me through this, and I'm going to make it some way, some way."

Right now, Jordan is staying with his sister and brother-in-law.
