RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Eleanor Ross has mastered the art of couponing. She created savingourway.com to pass those savings onto you, but now she's taken it on the road.
"There's always a deal to be had, always something new to learn," Eleanor said at her Couponing with the Pro's Class.
Participants enjoy free wine and gourmet snacks prepared by Kroger while devouring the wealth of knowledge Eleanor has to offer.
"Whatever we can do to help them take advantage of our retail and our low prices, we're more than happy to accommodate them," said Alice Jones, Manager of the Short Pump Kroger.
"You should also to be willing to try new brands, because there's always something on sale and 9 out of 10 times it's all the same," Eleanor said.
She recommends buying multiple papers when you find coupons you'll use.
"Don't let the coupon drive your purchases for products you do not use," she added.
Many who get the Sunday paper don't even look at the inserts. There's a cheaper way to get multiple coupons, simply ask.
"It's asking your family and friends, it's asking people at church, asking people at work, it's asking your neighbors," Eleanor said.
You can print coupons from the internet on sites like coupons.com, smartsource.com, and redplum.com. Eleanor explains coupon databases can help you match your grocery list to any existing coupon. One of them is afullcup.com.
"They're treated just like manufacturer's coupons," Eleanor said.
She suggests picking one store and only shopping there. It helps you learn the store and keeps you organized.
"To take your coupons, match them with the store's sales and come out paying $19 for $82 worth of stuff," she said.
Eleanor's next of many classes is Tuesday February 22nd at the Short Pump Kroger from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. She'll refresh her coupon strategies and show you how to decode digital coupons. In sign up for the class RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
