NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - An abandoned apartment on Redding Street caught fire Sunday around 3:30 p.m.
The North Charleston fire chief says when they responded to the fire, people were on the top balcony of the two-story apartment. He says he believes they were homeless and taking shelter in the abandoned building.
No injuries were reported.
The North Charleston Fire Department says it took about 20 minutes to put out the flames.
Neighbors say they that several people were seeking shelter in the abandoned apartments.
A person was seen being taken out on a stretcher, but the fire department has not confirmed if anyone was seriously injured.
Investigators are currently looking into what may have caused the fire.
