Shooting victim allegedly shot at while trying to steal speakers

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) – Charleston County sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting on James Island that happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputies are investigating allegations that the man who was shot was breaking into another man's truck.

Officers said they responded to a home on Julian Clark Road and met with a 22-year-old man who said someone attempted to take speakers from his truck.

According to investigators, the man was inside his home and heard his roommate's dog barking, so he looked outside and saw someone breaking into his truck. The man said he then grabbed his handgun and ran outside.

A police report states that the man saw a white male driving a burgundy Saturn leaving the home. According to the man, he then stood in his driveway and fired four to five rounds from his gun towards the rear of the Saturn.

The man that was shot at told police he was going through trash cans and said he was attempting to leave the property when he was approached by a white male with a handgun. He said the man fired several shots into his vehicle and grazed him on the top of his head.

The victim drove himself to Wellington Drive, which is just a few blocks away from Julian Clark Road. He was taken to MUSC. Deputies towed the car for evidence.

Deputies are talking to the local prosecutor about possible charges in the case.
