Charleston County deputies investigate 4 shootings in 5 days

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon says investigators don't have a reason for the recent string of shootings in the county.

"Trying to interpret the increase of the shootings, I have no explanation for it. There's no common thread," Cannon said Tuesday.

Over the past five days, four people have been shot in West Ashley, James Island, Lincolnville and Ridgeville. One of those shootings was fatal and another resulted in the victim being paralyzed. No arrests have been made in any of the shootings.

Cannon says victims in two of the shootings are not cooperating with police, making the investigation more difficult.

The shooter and the victim in the James Island shooting have both been identified. Deputies are currently determining if the shooter was acting in self defense when an alleged thief was breaking into the shooter's car.
