CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Authorities released surveillance video Friday of a Wednesday night pharmacy robbery that investigators say may be related to other robberies.
Police say the video shows a suspect robbing the CVS Pharmacy on Ashley River Road in West Ashley. Police are investigating two other pharmacy robberies this month.
According to authorities, the pharmacy was robbed around 9:30 p.m. by a man who stole an undetermined amount of oxycotin. Witnesses told police that the man implied that he had a handgun, but never showed the weapon.
The Plantation Pharmacy in James Island was robbed around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Investigators say it is too early to determine whether this robbery is connected to other recent pharmacy robberies in the area.
In the CVS robbery, witnesses say the suspect approached the pharmacy and told an employee at the counter to give him the narcotics, the oxycotin and loritab, and instructed her not to "hit the button." The witnesses said the suspect had his hand under his shirt like he had a gun.
The employee filled a bag with several prescription pill bottles and the suspect took the bag and fled the store.
The suspect is about 5'10" and is described as heavy set. He was last seen wearing a dark colored hoodie, wearing a dark shirt, a baseball cap and a black bandanna on his face.
Detectives are saying that the pharmacy robberies have similar characteristics but its unknown if they were committed by the same person.
