Neighborhood evacuated after man finds grenade in backyard

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say a North Charleston neighborhood was evacuated after a man found a grenade in his backyard on Thursday.

The North Charleston Police Department responded to 4515 Rugheimer Ave. after a man said that he found a grenade while cleaning.

When officers found the grenade, it had a hole drilled in the bottom and a cork placed in the hole.

The Charleston County Bomb squad examined the grenade and found that it did not have any filler inside.

Authorities say the man had just purchased the apartments at the address a few weeks ago.
