Crosstown construction to begin in April to improve flooding issues

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Construction to fix flooding on Highway 17 at the Crosstown will begin in April.

The Charleston City Council approved an $11 million contract to help fix the drainage problem in that area of downtown. The city received a $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve the Septima Clark Parkway.

Crews will work on storm water collections. The overall project is expected to cost more than $146 million.

Mayor Joe Riley says the city will continue to work on getting more funds to fix the road.
