COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Forestry Commission responded to 303 wildfires last weekend.
During the Presidents' Day weekend, weather much of South Carolina was under a red flag alert. As a result, forestry commission officers wrote 107 tickets for outdoor burning violations. People were issues notifications or citations for the precautions law and allowing fire to spread.
The forestry commission spent $25,111 in fuel during the red flag period.
There were a total of 303 wildfires. Twenty structures were destroyed and 43 structures were damaged in the fire. There was $473,100 in non-timber losses to homes, structures, vehicles or other property.
