SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A pedestrian was killed in Sumter County Saturday morning after a car struck the individual in a parking lot, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Lance Corporal Judd Jones said 61-year-old Judith Dandridge was traveling south of US 76 in a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina when she went off the road into a parking lot. She first struck a Ford parked in the parking lot, forcing it into a Ford pick-up truck. He said she then proceeded to strike two pedestrians and a parked Dodge Caravan, which pushed the van into a utility pole.
Dandridge was taken to Tuomey Hospital's emergency room with non life-threatening injuries. 60-year-old Lee Wells was one of the pedestrians hit. Lance Corporal Jones said he only sustained minor injuries. The second pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the parked Dodge Caravan, 51-year-old Darlene McElary-Brown, was taken to Tuomey Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
