CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a 24-year-old man was killed after he fell from a second story apartment balcony Saturday in downtown Charleston.
The Charleston County Coroner's Office confirmed that James McDonough of Massachusetts died as a result of blunt head trauma.
The incident happened early Saturday morning when officers responded to an apartment on 156 Coming St. in reference to a complaint of loud music. As the officers were speaking with the owner of the apartment they heard a loud noise they described as a dropped garage bag.
Another resident then approached police and told the officers a man was laying on the steps of her home. Officers say they then found the unconscious victim laying face down with a large amount of blood coming from his face and right side of his head.
Authorities say that the victim was not breathing initially, but after a minute the victim began to breathe. He was rushed to MUSC around 4:15 a.m., but was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon at the hospital.
According to a police report, two rungs on the second floor porch were dislodged from the railing. The victim was later pronounced dead.
McDonough was in town staying with friends who go to the College of Charleston.
