SULLIVANS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina poet laureate Marjory Wentworth is to become the poet-in-residence at Fort Moultrie on Sullivans Island.
Besides being the state's poet laureate, Wentworth teaches several writing courses in Charleston and has written four volumes of poetry and a children's book.
As part of her residency at the fort, Wentworth leads a writing workshop on March 26 for anyone interested in learning and writing about Sullivans Island and the fort.
In late April, Wentworth reads her poems at a community reading. Workshop participants will also be encouraged to read, as will other writers who have written about the fort and island. Wentworth is a former island resident.
