WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A man is facing obstruction of justice and drug charges after authorities determined that he impeded an investigation into the murder of his son.
Charleston Police charged 49-year-old Kennedy Smith with obstruction of justice in the murder of his son, 25-year-old James Javon Smith.
In addition, authorities say that Charleston County Sheriff's deputies arrested Kennedy Smith Tuesday night around 10:45 p.m. at his residence on Orange Grove Road for possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
According to investigators, the 25-year-old was shot around 5 p.m. Tuesday on St. Clair Drive.
He was driven to the Saint Andrews Fire Department by his father.
Detectives determined on Wednesday that Kennedy Smith attempted to hinder or impeded the murder investigation by concealing information about the incident.
James Smith died at the fire department on Ashley River Road shortly after he was dropped off.
