Police: Suspect steals women's handbag then she takes it back

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police are looking for a strong-armed robbery suspect they say stole money from a woman on Monday night.

According to police, the suspect stole money from a woman in the parking of the Circle K on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard around 7 p.m. Monday.

Police say the victim was walking toward the business entrance when the offender approached her and asked for money to pay for gas. She was holding her small handbag and the $5 she was going to use pay for gas. The bill dropped from her hand and they both bent down to pick it up.  He then grabbed her small handbag and the bill as he ran towards his vehicle.

The woman gave chase and jumped in to the car grabbing her handbag back. The offender quickly drove off on Highway 7 heading towards Highway 526 with the victim's $5.

The suspect is described as a white male between 30 and 40 years old. He is said to be about 5'1" to 5'3" and weighs 120-130 pounds. He was last seen leaving in a dark-colored older model Jeep Cherokee with two doors.
