WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – More movies and television shows are coming to the Wilmington area, thanks to the film incentive, and that means the search for extras is on.
Most of the people you see in the background of films and shows show in this area are local residents who are looking to make a few extra bucks.
It's easy to apply to be an extra – you just have to walk into Fincannon & Associate's building on one corner of the Screen Gems Studios lots off 23rd Street. The casting company puts regular people on Wilmington's film sets.
When you're there you'll have to fill out a blue card with your personal information. You'll want to bring along a picture of yourself if possible, but if you forget they will take one of you for $2.00.
The whole process only takes about five minutes. Sometimes casting crews will call you and let you know when and where to be if they're looking for a specific look, but most of the time you have to call them.
Many of the thousands of people on file with Fincannon call the office on a regular basis to see if there's "extra" work available for the following week.
Producers say extras are a critical part of the film making process because they fill the screen and paint the picture.
The ABC Family Channel movie Teen Spirit, which is being filmed in Wilmington, is holding an open casting call Saturday, March 5. Click here to learn more about what directors are looking for.
