GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's Social Services Department says an infant rescued from a sports arena toilet just hours after his birth has been released from the hospital in good condition.
Agency spokeswoman Marilyn Matheus said Friday the infant was released a week ago. Matheus says DSS is working out a permanent placement plan with the child's extended family and the courts.
The 24-year-old mother of the 6-pound boy has been charged with felony child abuse and illegal neglect of a child. Jessica Blackham's family has said she did not know she was pregnant and did not remember giving birth.
Blackham also has a 4-year-old child. The infant was found in the toilet by cleaning crews at Greenville's Bi-Lo Center. The workers took care of the baby and called 911.
