COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Alstevis Squirewell scored on a layup with 37 seconds left and Shaquille Lamar added two free throws in the final 21 seconds to give Great Falls their state-record tying ninth state championship with a 53-50 victory over Burke in the Class A boys championship.
The Red Devils (25-2) overcame an 11-point third quarter deficit Saturday to win the seventh state title under John Smith, the state's all-time leader in coaching titles.
Xavier Holmes scored 14 points and Squirewell chipped in 13 points for Great Falls. Brandon Criscoe gave the Red Devils a 49-48 lead with a layup with 1:35 remaining but Burke (23-7) answered with a steal and layup by Solomon Dukes with one minute remaining to set up the ending.
Fadol Brown scored a game-high 20 points for Burke.
