Mt. Pleasant State of the Town addresses highway congestion

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mount Pleasant Mayor Billy Swails spoke about traffic congestion on Highway 17 in his State of the Town address Tuesday night. He says it is the one drawback of the award winning town.

The Mayor says in a little more than two years, the biggest problems will be cleared up. That's because Johnnie Dodds Boulevard is currently being widened and improved.

"The number one complaint we've got going on in the Town of Mount Pleasant is traffic congestion," Swails said."You folks who are West of the Ashley, you know it's not as bad. Theirs is a lot worse than ours. When it's completed we will not have a number one complaint."

There was buzz surrounding the announcement of the Carolina Parks Recreation Center and the completion of the first phase of Shem Creek's public dock project this summer.

Swails concluded by saying, "I'm proud to report the State of the Town is strong and growing stronger by the day."
