Authorities: Man stabs roommate in the head

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Authorities arrested a 33-year-old man for stabbing his roommate in the head at a mobile home on Red Bank Road in Goose Creek.

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office has charged Jeronimo Gomez Mendez with attempted murder.

According to authorities, a 33-year-old man was sleeping and woke up to find Mendez stabbing him in the head with a knife. A sheriff's office report states that the suspect struck the victim three to four times on the head.

The victim said that he shielded himself from the knife with his arms. At one point, the suspect stopped attacking the victim and fled the area.  Deputies say that the victim, who was bleeding and had cuts on his head, was taken to the hospital.

A bloody knife was found by deputies as well as blood throughout the mobile home. According to a police report, the suspect claimed that the victim had attacked him and that a knife was not involved.

Mendez is being held on $120,000 bond.
