DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A 44-year-old man was sentenced to two life sentences for a murder in Dorchester County.
Billy Jo Bates was sentenced to two life sentences for the July 8, 2010 murder of Tyrone Ronnie Atkins.
Bates also received 30 years for an armed robbery charge. Family members say it may have been Atkins' generosity that got him killed.
Dorchester County Sheriff's deputies say Atkins was murdered by a man he knew for a few years. Authorities say that Bates did odd jobs around the house for Atkins.
The victim's daughter says investigators told her he confessed to killing and robbing her father.
